Apple iOS 10 has started rolling out for those on public beta, while the final roll-out for all customers is on September 13.
Apple’s iOS 10 software updates will start rolling out today at 10.30 pm IST. Those who are on the public beta programme have gotten the Golden Master update, which is the final one, but regular consumers will get the update today. Apple iOS 10 update is a free software update as always and will be pushed to everyone with a compatible iPhone. List of devices includes iPhone 5 and above, all iPad Pro, Air models, iPad 4th generation, iPad Mini 2.
The iOS 10 update on public beta was about 1.96GB and took us close to 45 minutes to download and install over a 8Mbps broadband connection. This was the final public beta build. Ensure that you have enough power in the device while initiating the process. Even better, plug in your phone when the update is happening.
iOS 10 was first unveiled at Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco this June. Unlike the new Apple iPhone 7 series, the iOS 10 was more than incremental and brought in a lot of new features.
The most visible feature will be the new lock screen, which now has widgets for most of the apps in the phone. It is a good way to access quick information without actually opening an app. Then there are major changes to iMessages as Apple tries to wean people away from third-party messaging apps like Facebook Messenger and Whatsapp. So iMessages now has an app store of its own and a whole bunch of cool add-ons from scribbling to animations.
Also, Siri will now come with access to third-party apps, so that you will be able to get actions done on compatible apps with just voice. Maps and Photos to have got major revamps along with a layer of extra intelligence. Photos will have a new feature called ‘Memories’ to put together photos from a trip, and Apple says it will rely on ‘object identification’ and recognition to create these. Apple has also widened the scope of 3D touch with this latest update.
