More than 50 mln displaced children worldwide - UNICEF report

Across the globe there are some 50 million displaced children, according to a new UNICEF report.

And more and more of them are crossing borders alone.

In 2015, more than 100,000 unaccompanied minors applied for asylum in 78 countries.

That’s three times more cases than in 2014.

How is Europe addressing the crisis?

Euronews put the question to UNICEF programmes director Ted Chaiban.

“The important (thing) is that we have an ability to be able to give them (children) fast process to legal representation,” Chaiban said. “That their claims are addressed in a quick manner, so that they know what their status is, as a refugee or migrant; that they re-unify with their families in case these families exist; and that they have access to education and other service.
