SYDNEY — Concerts are being planned to celebrate the life of Chinese dictator Mao Zedong in Sydney and Melbourne next month.

The musicals will be commemorating the 40th anniversary of Chairman Mao’s death on Sept. 9, 1976.

The first concert will be held on Sept. 6 at Sydney’s town hall and then three days later in Melbourne.

The concerts are being organized by the International Cultural Exchange Association Australia and LB Homes Group.

The organizers of the concerts hope to get preferential treatment for their businesses from the Beijing government.

The musicals, which are being heavily marketed on Chinese-language media in Australia, will no doubt forget to mention the rampant torture and murdering of millions during Mao’s Cultural Revolution. And they’ll probably skip over the disastrous Great Leap Forward.

A petition has been started to cancel the concerts, but unfortunately it looks like they’re still a go.

Australia will have to be careful. We all know how China likes to claim stuff that doesn’t belong to it.
