Aug 23, 2016 – The Florida Department of Health is investigating a new case of Zika in Pinellas County, Florida Gov. Rick Scott announced Tuesday.
The new case of the virus could mean the disease is spreading to more areas of Florida.
Although there have already been cases of Zika reported in Pinellas, all previous cases were contracted from travel outside the country, not inside. Now It has.
Officials stated this particular case did not originate due to outside travel, meaning if the patient is found not to have traveled to areas in south Florida where the virus has already spread, the state will need to expand its mosquito control program to Pinellas County.
