Positive change for Burma?

Signs of seemingly positive change in Burma are being met with mixed
reactions inside the country and around the world.

Friday August 19 saw a long awaited meeting between NLD General Secretary Aung San Suu Kyi and the current President Thein Sein. Suu Kyi has been pushing for dialogue with Burma's government since her release, however, on a recent political trip she told supporters it was too early to judge if this marked a thawing in their relationship.

Other changes tentatively welcomed by those hoping for reform include more transparency from the government after they held their first press conference.

But meanwhile conflict continues in the eastern Border and almost 2000 political prisoners are still in jail and some see the changes and promises being made by the government as superficial.
