A baby humpback whale that had gotten stranded on rocks just off the Queensland coast was rescued on July 27. According to reports fishermen, tourists, surfers and tradies were all present on the scene and worked to save the whale.
Emma O’Sullivan was one of those present during the rescue, filming the successful attempt and uploading it to Facebook. Her video shows a rope being placed around the calf, and five rescuers dragging it out back into deeper waters. The large baby had cuts on its body from struggling against the rocks, and time was of the essence as the tide was retreating. Credit: Emma O’Sullivan
