Arias was born in 1994 into a war zone known as the department of Caquetá, Colombia. Once considered the “Vietnam of Colombia”, this isolated region has seen the worst of the violence from the country’s armed conflict, the world’s longest-running civil war fought between the Colombian government, leftist guerrillas, right-wing paramilitaries and organized crime syndicates.
