Considered to be the most endangered of all sea turtles, the Kemp's ridley turtle is also one of the smallest, weighing less than 45 kilograms as an adult and only growing up to about 70 centimetres in length.

This fascinating marine reptile has a rather parrot-like beak and its relatively flat, almost completely round shell is greenish-grey on the upper surface. Kemp's ridley turtles have an extremely restricted range, being found mainly in the Gulf of Mexico and up the eastern coast of the United States.
