Chicago is stepping up security around upcoming LGBT pride events over the next two weekends with hundreds of more police officers in wake of the recent shootings in Orlando.
Police Supt. Eddie Johnson said Thursday in a news conference more officers in uniforms, plain clothes, on bikes and from K-9 units will be stationed throughout the Pride Fest celebration in Boystown and at the Pride parade, taking place in the Uptown neighborhood.
The FBI also is helping the Chicago Police Department and the Office of Emergency Management and Communications with safety plans.
Richard Pfeiffer, parade coordinator, said the event will feature a moment of silence for the 49 victims killed at Pulse in Orlando, and their photos will be displayed as a memorial.
