A zookeeper at Oregon Zoo accidentally closed a cage door trapping a lion’s tail during a zoo training session on Monday, June 13. The male lion is expected to make a full recovery from what the zoo described as a minor injury. Visitors captured the incident on camera while observing the training session.
The zoo said in a statement: “It doesn’t appear to be a serious injury, and we’re glad that Zawadi seems to be recovering well. But you always feel badly when an animal you care for is hurt,” added animal curator Michael Illig. “We’ll be reviewing all the details of the situation — from the building to the mechanics to our protocols — in order to make sure this cannot happen again.” Credit: YouTube/Brandon Geer
