LOS ANGELES — 2016’s Electronic Entertainment Expo is underway and gaming’s big two have made a series of console announcements that are sure to leave some fanboys hungry for more — and others potentially angry.

Sony and Microsoft have upgraded and slimmed down versions of their current consoles on the way.

Microsoft announced that its slimmer and more powerful Xbox One S will be released this August, while their much speculated “Project Scorpio” console will hit stores in late 2017.

In an interview with the Financial Times, a Sony executive confirmed the existence of the much rumored Playstation “Neo” project, describing it as a “high-end Playstation 4.”

A console generation typically lasts around seven years before better machines arrive, so it’s easy to see why some gamers will be feeling a little pwned by the news of the mid-generation refresh.

The Xbox One and Playstation 4 were both originally released in 2013 to tune of $500 and $400.

Neither Project Scorpio nor the Neo will make an appearance at E3.
