Amritsar (Punjab), May 13: During a function to mark the 32nd anniversary of Operation Bluestar at the Golden Temple, a group of people raised anti– government and pro-khalistan slogans. Kant, a former top cop, condemned the act and held Pakistan and ISI responsible for it. The operation Bluestar was a military raid to flush out militants who took shelter in the Golden Temple in 1984. On its 32nd anniversary, SGPC task force and police kept a close watch on hardliners and whisked away people who raised pro-khalistan slogans during the ceremonies. Kant said that such activities were funded by Pakistan's intelligence agency, ISI. In the past few years, pro-khalistan slogans were raised by hardliners during the anniversary of the Operation, resulting in clashes. Hundreds of people, including security personnel, were killed in 'Operation Bluestar', the army's action on the Golden Temple complex in June 1984 to flush out armed extremists led by Sikh leader Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. A decade of separatist violence in Punjab claimed over 15,000 lives. The movement fizzled out after 1995, but some separatist leaders based abroad are active to create fresh disturbance in Punjab.
