VANCOUVER ISLAND, BRITISH COLUMBIA — Canadian photographer Lisa Bell recently found herself witnessing the majesty of nature up close in a battle royale between a bald eagle and a Canada goose. On June 3, she published the series of photographs on Facebook.

At 7:15 in the morning, while vacationing with her family on Vancouver Island, Bell saw the bald eagle descending upon the unsuspecting Canada goose. Scrambling for her camera, she managed to photograph the remarkable tussle of these two feathered foes.

The eagle, maybe a bit too cocky with its catch, left the door open for the goose to duck out from underneath. And the Canada goose didn’t take the opportunity for granted, making a break for it as fast as his wings could flap.

Sensing the water was where he might have the advantage, he dove into a nearby pond, and got himself to safety, minus a few scratches and bruises.

The final photographs in Bell’s series of ten are of the goose swimming freely around the pond, and the eagle flying away.
