CAIRO — As the search for EgyptAir Flight 804 continues days after the plane disappeared roughly 175 miles from the Egyptian coast, there are conflicting reports about the aircraft's final moments.

After EgyptAir Flight 804 disappeared early Thursday morning, Greek Defense Minister Panos Kammenos initially said radar shows aircraft swerved left 90 degrees and then right 360 degrees as it rapidly descended from an altitude of 37,000 feet to 15,000 feet. The plane reportedly disappeared from radar at an altitude of 10,000 feet, reported BBC News.

According to CNN, however, Mohi El-Din Azmi, the head of Egypt's National Air Navigation Services Company, challenges these initial statements by saying that moments after the plane entered Egypt's airspace at its normal height of 37,000 feet, the plane simply disappeared on radar.

Flight data indicates prior to the plane's disappearance, there was a heated window in the cockpit, smoke in the lavatory as well as smoke in the avionics compartment. But, officials say that it's too soon to draw conclusions from this data. The automated alerts that reported these issues don't necessarily mean there was a fire on board the aircraft.

With the plane still missing and only some body parts recovered from the crash, investigators say suggesting that a blast brought down the plane is mere speculation.

Until the black boxes are recovered from the aircraft, officials say that it's difficult to ascertain what happened to the plane, reported CNN. If investigators do not find the black boxes within the next month, however, it will get increasingly difficult to find them because the black boxes will no longer be sending out a sonar ping.
