The nation’s top spy, James Clapper, said hackers, possibly working for foreign governments, are trying to spy on the Democratic and Republican presidential campaigns.
Clapper did not offer details on specific intrusions or attribution to any hacker group or state.
The FBI and DHS are working to educate the campaigns about cyber threats.
Hackers working for foreign governments can gain valuable insight into a presidential candidate’s mindset prior to taking office, or uncover private communications to give their country a boost in diplomatic negotiations.
