Salman Khan must have finally heaved a huge sigh of relief as today, the Bombay High Court acquitted the actor of all charges in the 2002 hit-and-run case, which left one dead and four injured.
On May 6, 2015 a Mumbai Sessions Court sentenced him to five years in prison, post which Khan filed an appeal in the High Court. In his appeal, Khan had contended that the charge of culpable homicide was wrongly invoked and not justified.
Justice A.R. Joshi, who was dictating the judgement, found several lacunae in the procedures for checking the presence of alcohol in the superstar’s blood and also stated that the prosecution has failed to prove that he was driving under influence on that ill-fated night. Joshi also stated that the statement of the case’s key witness, Khan's former, now late, police body guard Ravindra Patil, the first informant in the 2002 case against the actor, was not reliable as he could not be cross-examined.
Salman also reached the HC with sister Alvira after 1 pm. While dictating the verdict, Joshi said that the prosecution has failed to establish its case against Salman on all charges and thus Salman can’t be convicted.
