Doctors at Massachusetts-based medical device maker, DC Devices, have devised a unique, permanent heart implant that represents a new way to treat diastolic heart failure.

Called the InterAtrial Shunt Device (IASD), this innovative new implant is designed to relieve blood pressure on the left side of the heart (the area that causes diastolic heart failure) and redistribute it to the right side to allow for better flow around the body.

In addition, the trans-catheterization insertion procedure is minimally invasive and takes about 15 minutes, which is significantly more cost-effective in terms of both surgery and patient hospitalization.
