LONDON — Two sides of a Tinder date. That’s the name of a video project artists Andy Leek and Daniela Sea created with the marriage of modern blind dating and documentary filmmaking.
When they matched on Tinder on February 12, Daniela’s profile mentioned she was looking for interesting people, and open to collaborating with artists. Andy was quick to take advantage of that little detail, and asked her if she’d be into filming the entire date as a fun, fascinating project. It’s a bold move, but Daniela was actually into it, so the two began recording.
Using their smartphones, they each recorded practically everything that goes into a first date – them getting ready, then commuting to the meeting spot, and even discussing their first impressions, expectations, and anxieties to the camera.
When they finally met at a bar, despite some initial awkwardness, they seemed to really hit it off, so much so they enjoyed their first kiss on screen for all to see. As the evening moved along, they ended up back at Andy’s place. They were both eager to get it on, just not for the cameras.
After sharing the videos with each other, a month later they did a joint sit-down interview to discuss how they felt about the entire experience. They’ve gone on a couple more dates since then, and whether they decide to keep things moving or not, their film “Two Sides of a Tinder Date” has been viewed more than 27,000 times on Vimeo in only five days. Not bad for a first date.
