Johnson & Johnson suffered its second court defeat in less than three months over claims its talcum powder causes cancer, with many more cases looming.
A St. Louis jury awarded $55 million in damages to Gloria Ristesund who used the powder for more than 35 years before being diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2011.
Her lawyers argued the company knew of possible health risks but failed to warn consumers.
Johnson & Johnson plans to appeal the verdict.
Talc is a naturally occurring mineral used to absorb moisture in many cosmetic products, from baby powder to makeup.
The American Cancer Society said it’s not clear if talcum products increase cancer risk.
