Katra/Agartala, Apr 19 (ANI): Dipa Karmakar, who secured her name in the history after qualifying a berth for Rio Olympics 2016, was lauded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. Speaking at the fifth convocation of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, the PM said, "Just yesterday a daughter of India, Dipa Karmakar brought fame to the country at Rio Olympics and for the first time a daughter is going in Gymnastic." 22-year old Dipa Karmakar from Agartala became the first Indian female gymnast to qualify for the quadrennial event. Karmakar was also the first Indian female gymnast to win a medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Karmakar's father said he is very happy and proud of her daughter. Karmakar won the gold in the first attempt and she scored 14.5 in her second and last try.
