Imphal, Apr 18 (ANI): The five-day Thingyan Water Festival kicked off in Tamu, Myanmar. The water festival, which is being celebrated in front of Tamu D.C. Office, is Burmese New Year Water Festival and usually falls around mid-April. It is a Buddhist festival celebrated over a period of four to five days. The water symbolises washing away of previous year's bad luck and sins. Hundreds of Manipuris from India joined the festival this time. In the past few years due to restrictions, only a few Indians were allowed to cross the border. However this year, with new government, the Indians took part in the celebration. Standing on bamboo stage, erected along the streets, people were seen splashing water on passersby, clicking selfies as part of the festival.
