1. SpongeBob was created by Steve Hillenburg, a former marine biologist who went to art school to study cartooning. Like SpongeBob, Hillenburg once worked as a fry cook at a seafood restaurant.\r

2. Squidward is not a squid, but rather an octopus, however he only has 6 tentacles as animators feel it would be troublesome animating 8 tentacles.\r

3. Tom Kenny the voice of SpongeBob also does the voices of Dog on Catdog and the Mayor of Townsville on The Powerpuff Girls.\r

4. SpongeBob was born July 14, 1986, but he was already living on his own and trying to get a job at the Krusty Krab when the show debuted in 1999.\r

5. A new species of fungus was named, Spongiforma squarepantsii. While not a sponge, it looks like one and inspired researchers to name it after SpongeBob.\r
