The U.S. Geological Survey has released new maps and data which show that as many as seven million Americans living in parts of the U.S. are at a higher risk next year of experiencing human-caused earthquakes.

The U.S. Geological Survey, or USGS, has produced earthquake-related maps before, but for the first time, a new release also includes the ones it calls “human-induced.”
These man-made hazards are largely the result of drilling to extract oil and gas--a controversial practice called fracking--which produces large amounts of wastewater that is disposed of deep in the earth.
