Chennai, Mar 17 (ANI): A hospital successfully performed a combined cardiac and windpipe surgery on an eleven-month-old Omani infant in Chennai city. The baby, Yaseen Essa Salim Saleem AL Ruqaishi, had a hole in his heart, narrow wind pipe and his left lung had collapsed. He was also suffering from Down's syndrome. Doctors in Oman were not able to perform surgery on him and advised Rukkaiya and Essa Salim, Yaseen's parents, to take him to India. The baby, who had been on a ventilator in Oman for a month, was brought to India in the same condition last month. A special team of doctors was formed in Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, to study the infant's condition. The doctors decided that they would do both surgeries at once on February 24.
Yaseen is now off the ventilator and breathing on his own.
