Armed rebels and government forces clashed in a town in the countryside of Syria's Hama province on Sunday (March 13), a video posted on the Internet purported to show.

The video, said to be filmed in the town of Sakhir, appeared to show the aftermath of several air strikes. Fighters using truck-mounted heavy machine guns could also be seen firing into the distance.

U.N.-sponsored peace talks are set to begin in Geneva on Monday (March 14). Syria's main opposition group is to attend but has accused the government of President Bashar al-Assad of preparing to escalate the war to strengthen its negotiating position.

A cessation of hostilities agreement, implemented two weeks ago, has reduced the violence but not completely stopped the fighting.
