Bijapur, Mar 09 (ANI): As many as 10 Maoist rebels, including 2 women, surrendered before the police in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh. The 10 rebels operated in various capacities in different Maoist groups. They chose to surrender after being disillusioned by the Maoist ideology. Inspector General SRP Kalluri said six of the 10 surrendered rebels carried a bounty of rupees 1.5 million on their heads. The Maoists, also known as ‘Naxals’ in India, are inspired by the political philosophy of China's late Chairman Mao Zedong. They say they are fighting for the rights of poor farmers and landless labourers.
