New Delhi, Mar 06 (ANI): Congress leader Manish Tewari on Sunday said the 'anti-liberal' BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre wants to shut down the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU). Tewari, who was commenting on Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) vice-chancellor Lieutenant General (Retired) Zameer Uddin Shah meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and seeking the government's support in restoring the varsity's 'minority' status, alleged that the ruling BJP wants to shut down all prestigious institutions. Asserting that the BJP always attempts to change established things, the Congress leader said the latest developments were not surprising as the saffron party does humiliate people at its will. Meanwhile, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Majeed Memon commenting on the meeting said this has been a matter of discussion for long. He said the AMU is feeling insecure on minority status of the varsity being revoked. He added that it would be the best opportunity for the Prime Minister to help them restore the status.
