DHAKA: Bangladesh secured their place in the final of 2016 Asia Cup Twenty20 (T20) as they beat Pakistan by five wickets at Dhaka’s Sher-e-Bangla stadium on Wednesday, ARY News reported.
Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first in their must-win match. They managed to score 129/7 in their given 20 overs.
Sarfraz Ahmed was the top scorer for the team as he remained unbeaten at 58 runs from 42 balls with five boundaries and two sixes to his name.Shoaib Malik made 41 runs from 30 balls with the help of five fours and a six.
Pakistan were struggling at 28/4 following the dismissals of Khurram Manzoor, Sharjeel Khan, Mohammad Hafeez and Umar Akmal when Malik and Sarfraz built-up 70-run partnership to take the total to 98, making Pakistan set a defendable target .
Apart from the two Pakistani batsmen, no other player could provide any solid contribution to the team. They put up a 70-run partnership on the 5th wicket.
Al-Amin Hossain grabbed three wickets while Arafat Sunny took two wickets.
The Bangladesh side, chasing 130 runs to win, reached the target in 19.1 overs with Soumya Sarkar being the top scorer for the team.
The hosts lost their first wicket with 13 runs on the board as Tamim Iqbal was trapped leg before after making seven runs for the team
Sabbir Rahman and Soumya Sarkar put up a 33-run partnership on the second wicket before the right hand batsman was bowled by Shahid Afridi.
The 37-run stand between Sarkar and Mushfiqur Rahman was broken by Mohammad Amir as the pacer went through the opener’s defences and took out his leg stump. The left-handed batsman was dismissed on 48 runs.
The Pakistani side were seemingly coming back into the game after the dismissals of Muhfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan from the bowling of Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Amir respectively.
The Bangladesh team, needing eighteen runs to win, scored 15 runs in the 19th over bowled by Mohammad Sami.
