General Budget 2016-17 Jaitley stresses on need for uplifting farmers(Part 1)

New Delhi, Feb 29 (ANI): India is listed as being among the top 10 agriculture-based countries in the world and Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday, while presenting the General Budget 2016-17, stressed on the need improve agricultural productivity and the lot of farmers. He said the government would aim for doubling the farmers' income in the next five years. Jaitley laid thrust on the rural sector and social sector, including healthcare, educational skills and job creation, to make India a knowledge based productive economy. He announced various allocations to the agri/farm and welfare with a total expenditure of Rs. 35,984 for agriculture in 2016-17. Jaitley also made announcements on infrastructure investment to enhance quality of life; financial sector reforms; governance reforms and ease of doing business; prudent management of government finances and tax reforms to reduce compliance burden.
