The finale, the monumental orchestral showpiece Roman Festivals—the third in Respighis vivid triology with Fountains of Rome and Pines of Rome—depicts traditional public festivals, including the violent battles of the ancient Circus Maximus, the religious pilgrimage to the Monte Mario, the October celebration of the harvest, and the joyous night before the Epiphany.
