The head of the Catholic Church in Australia is to give evidence to a public inquiry into child abuse in Australian institutions.
Cardinal George Pell is now a senior figure in Rome, in charge of the Vatican's finances.
The church in Australia had already accepted there have been hundreds of cases of abuse by paedophile priests over more than 80 years.
Cardinal Pell denies any wrongdoing.
