Himalayan Ibex (Capra sibirica hemalayanus), a big male will stand 40 inches/ 102 cm at the shoulder and weigh 200 pounds/91 kg. Coat is thick and woolly in winter, being shed in early summer. Color is very variable, ranging from pale brown to dark brown, with a darker dorsal stripe and often a lighter saddle patch and whitish neck patch. Generally darker in summer than in winter. When compared to other subspecies of Ibex – Himalayan Ibex appears stockier and sturdier. It is generally agreed that a bull with over 40 inches of horn length is a good trophy and that anything over 44 or 45 inches is excellent. Distribution both sides of the western Himalayans from Chitral in Pakistan, eastward to Leh and the upper Shyok River in Ladakh, and southeastward to the upper Sutlej River in northern India.
Area
Himalayan Ibex is found in the northern part of Pakistan, Himalayan and Karakurum Range of Pakistan, province Gilgit-Baltistan. Our hunt will take place in Kurumbar or Gojal Valley.
Hunting Season
The official hunting season starts from mid October till end April. However, this season varies in each province. For example, in southern Pakistan is November 15 - March 31. The best time to the hunt for two kind of Ibex is between mid December to mid January. Early season considered to be a poor period for hunting because of hot weather in Sindh ibex area.
Route
You can fly to Islamabad via many European cities. There are daily direct flights to Islamabad, for example from Frankfurt and London. Or you can fly directly to Karachi. The hunter will be met in Islamabad or Karachi by our representative and be accompanying whole trip. After arrival in Islamabad you will.Himalayan ibex area -fly by domestic airlines to Gilgit (app. 45 min). Then you will drive to hunting area by car (3-4 hours). Sometimes it is necessary to take a long ride up to the Northern Areas of Pakistan when the flights do not operate due to bad weather conditions (14-16 hours).
Camp & Accommodation
In northern part of Pakistan you should to expect a mountain village houses with basic facilities, comfortable camps or simple huts. In southern province you will expect very high quality guest houses or best hotels.Bhootani family of the Region has ruled the area for centuries and takes personal care of hunters, accommodating them in their own villa, built for the guests. The guest house compared to many places, is like a small palace with the availability of hot shower and television etc. Food on all trips is plentiful, healthy, wholesome and varied, prepared by high experienced cook. You will find a very good food and a quality service.
Hunting
Himalayan ibex area - Hunting usually starts from the villages houses where hunters are staying. In order to have a good hunt and to obtain a respectable size trophy, one needs to be in good physical shape. Be prepared for long hikes starting from early morning. In some areas a short drive may be needed (30-45 min.). They are easily accessible by 4x4 jeeps and we have to stalk a short distance. Climate
The mountain weather conditions in northern part of Pakistan is variety from year to year. During the winter the temperature can be 35-42 oF/+2+5 oC on a sunny days with lows of 32 oF/0 oC. Contrary the weather in south Pakistan may be around 60-75 oF/+15+ 25 oC at day time. The most preferable weather conditions are in late winter or early spring as the weather warms up to comfortable temperatures
