INDIANAPOLIS — Detectives arrested an 18-year-old suspect for allegedly shoplifting snacks and sodas at several gas stations in Indianapolis after receiving a tip-off from the accused’s mother.
Last week, city authorities released footage showing several people robbing a gas station. That footage was reportedly seen by suspect Jonathan Ratcliff’s mother, who reported him to the cops, reported CBS4 Indy.
“It’s like 500 to 600 dollars each time you know. There’s seven kids and they keep doing it. They never stop,” store owner Randy Singh told CBS4 Indy.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, Ratcliff — who is accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of snacks and soda — reportedly threw his backpack at gas station clerk as he was escaping during one of his alleged shoplifting sprees. That backpack, police say, contained homework assignments with Ratcliff’s name on them.
Crack detectives apparently saw this, coupled with his mother’s report and the surveillance footage, as evidence to charge Ratcliff with theft.
Police are urging the others involved in the shoplifting cases to turn themselves in.
