Dumfries House is a magnificent Georgian mansion in East Ayrshire, Scotland that was saved for the Nation by The Prince of Wales. Built in the 18th Century for the 5th Earl of Dumfries, the most notable feature of the house is the unrivalled collection of exquisite furniture which includes works by Thomas Chippendale. In 2007 His Royal Highness personally took out a £20million loan, in order to prevent the house and its contents from being split up at auction and sold for £45million.
