Syria's President Bashar al-Assad poured cold water on an internationally backed plan for a ceasefire to begin later this week, saying it would be "difficult" to implement. UN peace envoy Staffan de Mistura made a surprise visit to the war-torn country Tuesday in an attempt to push for a deal.
