Bill Hickok (Roy Rogers), assisted by Calamity Jane (Sally Payne), is after a foreign agent and his guerrilla band who are trying to take over some western territory just as the Civil War is coming to a close.

This is the edited-for-television version. In its uncut form, Young Bill Hickok had a running time of 59 minutes. It was trimmed in the early 1950s to fit a one-hour time slot for television showings. Many of the original film elements were used in the editing process and unused portions were simply discarded.
