SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA — Beyonce and company lit up the Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday and snuck in a political message on top of the booty shaking.

Her backup dancers, dressed in Black Panthers garb, held a sign after the performance which read "Justice 4 Mario Woods".

Mario Woods was a 26-year-old black man who was gunned down by San Francisco police in December.

Police were looking for Woods who was the primary suspect in a stabbing that occurred at Third Street and Laconte Avenue hours earlier.

The stabbing victim, who wanted to remain anonymous, told ABC that he saw Woods acting strange earlier that day. When Woods tried opening the man's car door, the man stepped out and the two exchanged blows. Woods then stabbed the man in the left shoulder. The stabbing victim was taken to hospital and says he wasn't the person who called police.

An eyewitness pointed out Woods to officers who arrived at the scene in response to the stabbing. It's hard to see from the video, but police say Woods was in possession of a knife at the time.

Police officers first used a beanbag gun on Woods. But the non-lethal force didn't seem to work. Woods refused to drop the knife as he walked in the direction of one of the surrounding officers.

Police then fired a barrage of bullets at the 26-year-old who would later be pronounced dead at the scene.
