NEW YORK — One person is dead and several injured after a crawler crane toppled over around 40 Worth Street between Church street and Broadway in New York's Tribeca neighborhood around 8:24 a.m. Friday.

An electrician working on the 36th floor of a nearby building told the New York Times that wind caused the crane to fall over.

CNBC reported that the crane was over 500 ft long, with debris spread out over two city blocks.

Live electrical wires were seen on the ground. Con Edison was on the scene responding to reports of gas odors at 57 Worth Street.

A 38-year-old man sitting in his parked car was killed and three others were injured by the fallen crane.

The crane was owned by Bay Crane who have not released a statement.
