In this F Chord Guitar Easy Tutorial I showed you a way to learn the F Guitar Chord in an easy way. Alright, lets be clear, easy is always relative. The fact of the matter is that most guitar students struggle with this chord. I would say that the F Bar Chord and the C Major Chord are the two biggest challenges for a guitar beginner. The problem with the F Guitar Chord is that first of all, your index finger needs to bar all six strings at the same time. The index finger simulates the nut of your guitar. While the other fingers resemble the shape of an E Major chord.
The other big F Chord Guitar challenge is the position in which the chord needs to be played at. It is very close to the headstock of your guitar. Or to be more precise it is right next to the nut which is the transition between the neck of your guitar and the head. The problem is, the closer you play toward the nut of the guitar, the harder it is to get pressure on the strings. On top of that the F Guitar Chord requires you to use all of your fingers. Also, your thumb plays a major role, too. Even though you can see your thumb, because he works behind the scenes so to speak, it is so important that you find the right spot on the neck to exert some counter pressure.
A lot of my guitar students ask me if there is some sort of F Chord Guitar Cheat. Well, I wouldnt call it a cheat. But there is in fact a what I call Easy F Chord Guitar Workaround. We discussed this in detail in the previous video where I showed you two ways to play this chord without having to bar all six strings. However, that should truly only be a workaround and maybe a solution for you while you continue to practice to use the regular F chord guitar finger position. It is just too important for a guitar player, believe me you need that chord and ultimately you do want to play it in the correct and traditional way. So look at the F Chord Guitar Variations that we previously discussed merely as a stepping stone to make your life as a guitar beginner a little bit easier.
Is the F Chord Guitar hard to play on an acoustic guitar, but easy to learn on an electric guitar? Thats another one of those typical questions I get. Well, the answer is: it really depends. It is true that generally speaking, it is easier to learn this chord on an electric guitar. Simply because the neck is usually smaller and the frets are closer together. On the other hand, especially a guitar beginner might not appreciate the fact that an electric guitar has steel strings. Those can hurt pretty bad if youre not used to the, But either way, as mentioned before, ultimate all these F Chord Guitar Help Workarounds should only be temporary solutions, and ultimately you want to tackle this chord the way it is supposed to be played.
Alright, so what I showed you in this tutorial is not only how to play an F chord on guitar, but more importantly, how to practice the F Chord Guitar finger position while playing it in the middle of your fret board instead of close to the nut. Of course, this is only for practicing purposes to get you accustomed to the F Major Guitar Chord. But I strongly recommend that you try this for a week or two. And feel free to just shift this position around all across the neck. As I demonstrated in the video, you can play whole songs with this very same finger position, all you need to do is moving it up and down the neck. After a while you will have developed enough strength and dexterity. At that point you can move everything back into the first, second and third fret to play the regular F Bar Guitar Chord.
With all guitar, practicing the F Chord is just a matter of discipline and patience. You will see, after a while even this dreaded of most chords becomes second nature.
