On June 18, 1993 a jazz concert on the White House lawn served as a tribute to the Newport Jazz Festival and George Wein, its founder. This clip shows the President and First Lady offering their opening remarks before introducing the master of ceremonies, Thelonious Monk Jr.
The music that followed is available elsewhere on YouTube and TheMotionDevotion will not worsen the problem of YT redundancy by uploading those clips. However, this intro does not seem to exist anywhere on the vastness that is YouTube and so here it is, complete with this wonderful statement by our ex-president:
It is especially appropriate that we should be together here at Americas house to celebrate that most American of all forms of musical expression - jazz.
