At least 21 students and teachers were gunned down at Bacha Khan University in Charsadda, a city in north-western Pakistan, on January 20. A splinter faction of the Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, which came little more than a year after a Taliban attack on a school in Peshawar, which killed 150 people, mostly children. More and more teachers are now choosing to carry a weapon – a policy encouraged by the government.
