KILLEEN, TEXAS — At Gateway Middle School in Killeen, Texas, it's probably best if you mind your own business, because helping out a classmate could get you in big trouble.
Eighth grader Anthony Ruelas was in class Tuesday morning when the girl beside him started having an asthma attack, reports KCEN.
The teacher, following protocol, fired off an email to the nurse and waited for instructions on what to do. As the minutes passed and the teacher waited for a response, the student's condition worsened and she eventually collapsed to the floor.
Seeing his friend's life in danger, 15-year-old Ruelas sprung into action. He picked his classmate up, saying "f—k that we ain't got time to wait for no email from the nurse," and took her to the nurse's office.
As a reward for his heroic action, Ruelas got a one-day suspension for walking out of class.
To add insult to injury, Ruelas' mother said the school called her the next day to ask why her son wasn't in school. She had to remind them that he had been suspended. She's now seriously considering home-schooling him.
