TORONTO — Toronto police are looking for two suspects in connection with the fatal shooting of an elderly man in a parking lot on Wednesday night.
Video footage posted on YouTube by Toronto police shows on of the suspects walking towards a parked van, while an accomplice keeps watch from a short distance away in a Scarborough townhouse complex just after 11:30 p.m.
Alva Dixon, 70, was drinking beer and smoking with a friend in his 40s inside the van when the suspect approached, police said.
Dixon was a well-known and well-liked former resident of the complex.
“He was a very, very good guy,” Muharem Zorjan, a local resident, told Inside Toronto News. “Everybody liked him. He never had a problem with anyone.”
Video shows the suspect firing two shots into the van in what appears to be a deliberate targeting of a person or persons inside and then running away.
Dixon, who was sitting in the passenger seat, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the friend in the driver’s seat suffered a gunshot wound to the arm, reported CBC News.
No arrests have been made. Police believe the shooting was not a random attack but are not sure if Dixon was the intended victim.
