1995 (Veteran vocalist/entertainer Shirley Bassey recorded this classic Willie Nelson song, Crazy, as one of the tracks from her 1995 CD tited, 'Shirley Bassey Sings The Movies'. One can count the number of Country songs that Shirley has recorded on less than two hands, but she has always loved this song and thus included it. This wonderful song made famous by the great Patsy Cline, whom I'm also a big fan of, is considered a cross over song and it's been recorded and/or performed by many different artists over the past 50 years. Nelson wrote the song in 1962. Shirley's was approaching 60 yo at the time of this recording; it's nice to listen to this song from a veteran's point of view, especially when that veteran is Shirley Bassey.
Shirley performed this song live in 1997, as part of her 60th Birthday Celebration.
ABOUT Shirley Bassey Sings The Movies:
In 1995 Shirley Bassey signed a deal with the PolyGram TV label, she recorded and released two albums with the label. The first was a themed album of movie songs. The songs were personally selected by Bassey for the album, and are a diverse range of ballads and pop classics, some were originally composed for original soundtracks, but several were classic songs that appeared in successful movies. One re-recording was made of the classic James Bond theme "Goldfinger", this is the fourth studio recording of the song by Shirley Bassey. No singles were issued from this album. Several TV performances were made by Bassey to promote this album and British television broadcast a successful commercial campaign. The album sold well across Europe and entered the UK Albums Chart, for a run of nine weeks, on November 11, 1995 and peaked at number 24.
LYRICS:
Crazy, crazy for feeling so lonely
I'm crazy, crazy for feeling so blue
I knew, you'd love me as long as you wanted
And then someday, you'd leave me for somebody new
Worry, why do I let myself worry?
Wondering what in the world did I do?
Crazy for thinking that my love could hold you
I'm crazy for trying, crazy for crying
And I'm crazy for loving you
Worry, why do I let myself worry?
Wondering what in the world did I do?
Crazy for thinking that my love could hold you
I'm crazy for trying, crazy for crying
And I'm crazy for loving you, crazy
