The video shows him driving along a empty road in the rain with no sign of any trouble.

But within seconds, muddy brown floodwaters and debris comes rushing towards him in scenes straight out of a Hollywood movie.

Thanks to some quick thinking, he throws the car smoothly into reverse and starts backing away from the danger at some speed.

Mark Chagaris was on a Californian road when the scary incident took place, but he calmly reversed until he could turn safely, and then continued on his way.

He told WTHR that he wanted to share the events to show how speedily waters can rise to dangerous levels, adding "panic wasn't the answer".
