The port zone of the Mumbai police seized 70,000 litres of diesel from mid-sea, the police have also arrested eight persons in connection with illegal trade of diesel and have also seized two tugboats used by the accused. The accused were unable to produce the documents of the consignment after which they were detained by the police and brought to the police station following the seizure of the 70,000 litres of diesel. The investigations revealed that the accused involved in the racket had a modus operandi of purchasing the diesel illegally from large vessels mid-sea including international ships at cheap rates and are also suspected to be involved in oil theft. They later sold it in small quantities in the city and also to the needy fishermen.
