TULSA, OKLAHOMA — Missing country singer Craig Strickland's body was recovered a week after he went missing while duck hunting during an ice storm in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
According to KOCO, Craig Strickland went duck hunting with his friend, Chase Morland, during a severe storm in Kaw Lake near the Oklahoma-Kansas state line on December 26.
Relatives reported them missing when the duo failed to return home, reported KFOR News. Oklahoma state troopers discovered their capsized boat shortly after midnight on December 28. Morland's body was found later that day in the lake, reported KOCO News.
According to KABC, police used search dogs, boats with sonar and drag lines and a helicopter to continue searching for Strickland. His body was found on Monday close to the Lake Kaw shoreline, reported WPTZ.
He suffered from hypothermia, said Strickland's wife, Helen Strickland in an instagram post. She also said her husband was found "lying in the shape of a cross."
"The night of the accident he had fought his way out of the water and up a hill before the stages of hypothermia set in," Helen Strickland wrote in the Instagram post. "He experienced no pain in his final moments and simply felt like he was falling asleep."
Strickland was the lead singer of Backroad Anthem, a six-member country rock band founded in 2012.
According to the Weather Channel, the ice storm, named Winter Storm Goliath, tore through Oklahoma over the weekend. More than 50 people were injured, caused transportation chaos, and left around 200,000 with no electricity.
