Speaking at a press conference in Riyadh on Sunday, Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir demanded that Iran's diplomats and related entities leave the country within 48 hours. The decision to cut diplomatic ties comes after the Saudi embassy was stormed in Tehran on Saturday. Protesters stormed the embassy after Saudi Arabia announced that it had executed 47 people, including prominent Shiite cleric Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr. Nimr was vocal critic of Saudi Arabia, and supporter of the anti-government protests that swept the Eastern Province in 2011.
