A comet is making its maiden voyage through our neck of the solar system and was expected to have arrived at a viewable distance from Earth in the early hours of 2016.
Commonly known as Comet Catalina, the speeding space ball was first spotted by astronomers in October of 2013 and likely hails from the Oort Cloud which NASA describes as "a spherical cloud of many billions of icy objects chaotically and loosely bound to the solar system."
In November, 2015, Catalina reached its closest proximity to the sun and since has been barreling through space at roughly 100,000 miles per hour.
