Two giant, seven-foot-tall numerals – the “1” and “6” in 2-0-1-6 – arrive in Times Square, marking 16 days before New Year’s Eve.
The famous numerals are very carefully unloaded and brought onto the streets of Times Square for a public unveiling and lighting.
Members of the public also have the opportunity to get their photo taken up close with the numerals throughout the day. After resting , the numerals will finish their journey to One Times Square, and the iconic “2-0-1-6” sign that lights up at midnight on December 31 will be complete.
Philips, the global leader in lighting, provides all of the Times Square New Year’s Eve Numerals with advanced, energy-efficient Philips outdoor rated LED BR30 bulbs. New Year’s 2016 marks the 16th consecutive year that Philips Lighting has served as the official lighting partner to the world-famous Times Square New Year’s Eve – produced by the Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment. Like the “20,” the “16” is illuminated by the same Philips outdoor rated LED BR30 bulbs that are available to consumers everywhere Philips lighting is sold. The four numerals use a total of 516 9-watt energy efficient Philips outdoor rated LED BR30 bulbs.
Tim Tompkins, President of the Times Square Alliance and Jeffrey Straus, President of Countdown Entertainment, co-organizers of Times Square 2016, and Carolyn Kerr, Director of Brand for Philips Lighting, will be on hand to oversee the arrival.
Landmark Signs will handle the installation and delivery of the numeral. For more information, please visit: www.TimesSquareNYC.org
